Good point, Robert. We use Basecamp internally for our wiki-type functions, a pretty good app that I did not include in the list. Probably a worthwhile addition. I've also played around with Google Wave a bit. But I have yet to really dive in and make it a part of my ongoing process.

Great post, I agree with many of your recommendations. A few comments and additions:

1. Pivotal Tracker is great, although I learned it is not very customer friendly.. too high of a learning curve. So we use it internally for requirements management but for customer collaboration we use Basecamp.

2. Highrise is great, but checkout Bantam Live (www.bantamlive.com) for a nice social spin on CRM. Batchbook is also interesting and free.

Finally, since I'm just starting a new business, I tried Manymoon as a project management tool - it's free and integrated with Google Apps. I really like it. It's not as concise as Basecamp, but very functional and the support for Google docs gives me a full blown team solution for $10/mo.

Anyway, love to learn about what others are doing. Thanks for sharing.

Google Docs/Calendar and Skype are must-haves.

There should be a Wiki tool of some sort in this list, but nowadays that's often included as part of some larger project-management system. So it's hard to recommend "just a wiki". Google Docs might serve that purpose for some people, but it's not really the same.

The one app I'm tempted to take issue with on this list is Gliffy. We used it for a while at Zenbe, but eventually drifted away from it in favor of good 'ol OmniGraffle. OG isn't as easy to collaborate on, but it's a much better drawing tool. And in most cases diagrams aren't all that collaborative. They're shared, but rarely does more than one person work on them. Gliffy has always felt pretty half-assed to me, and it hasn't evolved much in 5+ years. As an alternative, I'd recommend people keep an eye on the Google Docs drawing app that was just released. It's not quite there yet - it doesn't even have dynamic connector lines - but I'm pretty sure it will quickly evolve to outshine Gliffy.
